Texas Main Street City

Historic Downtown

Brick storefronts, century-old saddlework, and a Texas Main Street designation that keeps Kingsville's historic block alive and working.

A Designation, Not a Plaque

A Designated Texas Main Street City

Kingsville is one of more than 80 designated Texas Main Street cities — communities recognized for their commitment to preserving and revitalizing their historic downtowns. The Texas Main Street Program, administered by the Texas Historical Commission, is the state's chapter of the federally-affiliated National Main Street Center.

For Kingsville, the designation is more than a plaque. It means active stewardship: façade improvements, business retention support, historic-character zoning, and a downtown that's still the place where the city gathers. The block you'll walk wasn't preserved by accident — it's the result of decades of intentional work to keep its bones intact.

Continuous Heritage

A Living Storefront

Built in 1909, this storefront has been home to the King Ranch Saddle Shop for over a century — where the same hand-tooling craft that outfitted King Ranch vaqueros is still practiced today. The shop's continuous occupancy makes the building a rare example of historic continuity: a working storefront that has held the same trade through five generations of Kingsville families.

The building's pressed-tin ceiling, original oak counters, and unchanged street façade are why it sits on the National Register of Historic Places — and why it's the most photographed corner of the historic block.
