Parks & Trails in Kingsville

Open Space, Easy Trails, and Room to Breathe in South Texas

Overview

Genuine Outdoor Access

Kingsville isn't a hiking destination in the traditional sense — it's a South Texas ranching city, and the outdoors here reflects that: wide open, flat, and defined more by grassland, creek bottom, and bay than by dramatic terrain. What the area does offer is genuine outdoor access — a large city park with walking trails and wildlife, a well-regarded public golf course, a county park on the shores of Baffin Bay, and miles of birding trail that wind through the most biologically rich landscape in Texas.

In Town

Dick Kleberg Park

Kingsville's 186-acre city park is the center of outdoor life in town.

Located along Escondido Creek, Dick Kleberg Park is the most accessible green space in Kingsville and one of the most complete city parks in South Texas. A 0.6-mile walking trail circles the park's 9.1-acre lake, offering an easy route for a morning walk or a casual stroll with kids. The surrounding grounds include a wildlife overlook along Escondido Creek, butterfly and hummingbird gardens with interpretive signage, and enough open space to make it a genuine escape from town — without leaving it.

Beyond the trail, the park offers a full range of recreational amenities:

  • Playground equipment and swings
  • Basketball courts
  • Softball diamonds
  • Soccer fields
  • Pickleball and volleyball courts
  • Disc golf course
  • Covered pavilion available for rental
  • On-site park office

The park is also one of seven stops on the TPWD Kingsville Loop birding trail (CTC 088), with Green Jay, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, Vermilion Flycatcher, and Black-bellied Whistling-Duck regularly present.

All facilities are ADA accessible. The park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. through evening hours.

Tee Off

L.E. Ramey Golf Course

A full 18-hole public course — one of the best-kept secrets in South Texas.

L.E. Ramey Golf Course has been a fixture of Kingsville outdoor life since 1967. Named for Dr. Lindell Ramey, a longtime civic leader and supporter of the course, Ramey plays longer than it looks: 6,995 yards, par 72, with a course rating of 72.5 and a slope of 128. The Bermuda grass fairways are well-maintained, and the course is open to the public seven days a week.

Green fees run approximately $32. Tee times can be booked online.

On the Bay

Kaufer-Hubert Memorial Park

Kleberg County's park on the shores of Baffin Bay — a 20-minute drive southeast of Kingsville.

For those willing to make the short drive out of town, Kaufer-Hubert Memorial Park offers outdoor access of a completely different character. Situated directly on Baffin Bay near Loyola Beach, the park provides shoreline access to one of the most storied saltwater bays in Texas — and the amenities to stay a while.

What's here:

  • Lighted fishing pier on Baffin Bay
  • Boat ramp and boat wash
  • Playground
  • BBQ grills and picnic areas
  • RV hookups (SeaWind RV Resort)

The park is also a productive birding stop — one of seven on the TPWD Kingsville Loop (CTC 092) — with shorebirds, waterfowl, and coastal species throughout the year.

Birding Trails

The TPWD Kingsville Loop — an officially designated section of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail — connects seven birding sites in and around Kingsville, including Dick Kleberg Park, the Santa Gertrudis Creek Bird Sanctuary (with a walking levee through coastal marsh), Drum Point on Baffin Bay, and Kaufer-Hubert Memorial Park. These aren't formal hiking trails so much as places to park and walk through some of the most biologically productive landscape in the country.
